This article explains the difference between a master plan and an individual plan, and when to use each. Summit keeps these as two distinct plan levels.
The Two Plan Levels
An individual plan belongs to one athlete. It holds that athlete's own programme.
A master plan sits across athletes. Use it for structure that applies to a whole group, for example a squad template for the season.
When to Use Each
Use a master plan when you are laying out squad-wide structure, such as shared competition dates and training blocks.
Use an individual plan when you are working on one athlete's programme, including detail that applies only to them.
Sessions and the Session Calendar
You can only access an athlete's session calendar in an individual plan, not a master plan. This rule is confirmed in the Create a Session article.
To create or review sessions, open the athlete's individual plan rather than the master plan.
Note: If a plan is not behaving as you expect, first check whether you are in a master plan or an individual plan.
Where to start
You must create a master plan before you can create an athlete plan
An athlete plan is created by assigning your master plan to an athlete
You can provide as much or as little detail to your master plan as suits

Naming of a Plan
When you have a master plan and assign it to an athlete it creates a separate plan for that athlete. Suggested best practice is that you include the Master Plan Name in the overall athlete Plan name so it is clear to you as the creator of the plans where they originated from.
IE If you create a Master plan and called it Summer Training Squad, when you assign it to an athlete and create an athlete plan call it
Summer Training Squad - Julie's Plan (for example)
