Signing in Time Limits

How signing in works, how long you stay signed in, and when you will be asked again.

How you sign in

This depends on who you are

If you are

You sign in with

If you have trouble

An athlete, coach or staff member at a national sporting organisation

An email address and a password you set yourself when you were invited

Your NSO Administrator, or the SUMMIT support channel

An HPSNZ or Sport New Zealand staff member

Your normal work account, the same credentials you use for email

The Group IT service desk, because the account is not a SUMMIT one

How long you stay signed in

While you are using the AMS, you stay signed in.
Every action resets the clock. You will not be interrupted part way through a task.

If you stop using it, you stay signed in for up to 10 hours
Come back within ten hours and you will still be signed in.

After that you sign in again.
It takes a few seconds and does not affect any of your data.

The 12 hour limit

A twelve hour limit exists alongside an inactivity limit

Provided a person keeps using SUMMIT, they can stay signed in indefinitely. Only inactivity ends a session.

Every user will need to sign in again at least once every twelve hours, however actively they have been using the system. The two limits work together and whichever is reached first applies.

Limit

What it measures

What ends your session

Ten hour inactivity

Time since you last did something

You stop using SUMMIT for ten hours

Twelve hour maximum

Time since you signed in

Twelve hours pass, whether or not you have been using it

For most people the inactivity limit will be reached first and nothing will feel different. The twelve hour limit affects someone who uses SUMMIT on and off across a long day without a ten hour gap, for example signing in during the morning and still working in the evening.

Using SUMMIT on shared devices

Always sign out when you finish. On a shared laptop in a team room or gym, staying signed in means the next person sees athlete information under your name. Signing out is the only reliable way to end a session on a device you do not control.

Saving your Work

Nothing is lost when a session ends

Information you have SAVED is stored in SUMMIT, not on your device.

Being signed out does not delete or affect it. Anything typed but not yet saved will not be kept, which is the same as any other website.
