Training Peaks to Summit
Summit connects with TrainingPeaks so that coaches and athletes can continue using TrainingPeaks for detailed endurance session prescription while also seeing training plans, completed sessions and training information alongside other athlete information in Summit.
Once connected it will send session information from Training Peaks to Summit
Important: TrainingPeaks remains the place for detailed session prescription, including sets, repetitions and training targets. Summit provides a broader view by bringing training information together with planning, athlete information and other performance data.
How the sync works
Summit - Basic planned session information
TrainingPeaks - Detailed session prescription and session completion
Summit - Planned and completed training information displayed with other athlete data
The TrainingPeaks integration uses a webhook and a scheduled check to bring information into Summit. This refreshes every hour on the hour, so once a connection is made, the user may need to wait until the data does a refresh.
Information brought from TrainingPeaks into Summit
Planned sessions
When a session is created or updated in TrainingPeaks, planned training information can be brought into Summit and displayed as a session.
Completed sessions
After a workout is completed, TrainingPeaks sends the available completed-session information to Summit. This can include:
Calculated training metrics
Session summary information
Data files received from the athlete’s wearable device
Session text fields or comments available through the integration
Summit can use the completed information to show planned and completed measures together. Available session views support planned-versus-completed comparisons, time-series information, lap or interval breakdowns, training-zone information and multiple data sources where the required data is available.
Summit to Training Peaks
Information sent from Summit to TrainingPeaks
When syncing from Summit to TrainingPeaks is turned on, Summit can send the basic details of a planned session to TrainingPeaks.
This includes:
Session title
Session date and time
Planned duration
Planned Training Stress Score, where available
Detailed session prescription is not created in Summit.
Coaches or physiologists should open TrainingPeaks to add information such as:
Sets and repetitions
Pace, power or heart-rate targets
Detailed interval structures
Other session-specific instructions
Turning the Summit-to-TrainingPeaks sync on or off
The setting is held against the athlete’s profile.
Open the athlete’s profile in Summit.
Select Attributes.
Open Settings.
Find Sync sessions to TrainingPeaks.
Turn the setting On or Off.
Setting | What happens |
On | Sessions can sync from Summit to TrainingPeaks. |
Off | Summit will not send sessions to TrainingPeaks. Sessions can still sync from TrainingPeaks into Summit. |
This means turning the setting off does not disconnect TrainingPeaks completely. It changes the integration from a two-way sync to a TrainingPeaks-to-Summit sync only.
Connecting a TrainingPeaks account
Before information can sync, the athlete’s TrainingPeaks account needs to be connected to their Summit athlete profile.
The connection process is:
Open the athlete’s available apps and connections in Summit.
Select TrainingPeaks.
Follow the TrainingPeaks authorisation process.
Review and approve the requested connection.
Return to Summit.
Check that the connection status shows Connected.
The athlete can revoke access through their TrainingPeaks settings. The integration design also uses a common authorisation approach across athlete-connected platforms.
Where should I create or edit a session?
Task | Recommended system |
Create a basic planned session | Summit or TrainingPeaks |
Add detailed intervals, sets and targets | TrainingPeaks |
Complete or record an endurance workout | TrainingPeaks and the athlete’s connected device |
View the session alongside other athlete data | Summit |
View planned-versus-completed information | Summit |
View training information alongside periodisation phases | Summit |
Review wider athlete trends and information from several sources | Summit |
TrainingPeaks prescription remains in TrainingPeaks rather than recreating the same functionality in Summit. Summit then brings the planned and completed information into the athlete’s wider performance record.
Matching sessions
If a session occurs in Training Peaks with a start date that is 30 minutes before or after the start time of a session in Summit it will match to that session
Tips:
Use TrainingPeaks for detailed session prescription.
Avoid editing the same session in both systems at the same time.
Check the session in Summit after making an important change in TrainingPeaks.
If the information does not match, raise the issue through your usual Summit support path.
If TrainingPeaks information is not syncing
Check these items first
Confirm the correct TrainingPeaks account is connected.
Check that Summit shows the connection as Connected.
Confirm that the session exists in TrainingPeaks.
Check whether you expected the session to move:
from TrainingPeaks to Summit; or
from Summit to TrainingPeaks.
If you expect Summit to send the session to TrainingPeaks, confirm Sync sessions to TrainingPeaks is turned on.
Check whether the session was recently changed in both systems.
Allow for any scheduled processing before reporting the issue. The available documentation confirms that scheduled checking is used but does not give a processing interval.
When asking for help
Provide:
Athlete name
Sport
Approximate session date
Session title
Direction that did not work
Whether the connection shows as Connected
Screenshot of the session in TrainingPeaks
Screenshot of what appears in Summit
Time the session was created or changed
A problem affecting one athlete’s device or connection is handled as an individual support query. A failure affecting an entire vendor connection has a higher support priority because multiple athletes may have incomplete training information.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to enter the session twice?
No. The purpose of the connection is to share available session information between TrainingPeaks and Summit so users do not need to record the same basic session information twice. Detailed prescription should still be completed in TrainingPeaks.
Can I keep planning in TrainingPeaks?
Yes. Planned TrainingPeaks sessions can populate Summit at the session level.
Can I create a session in Summit and send it to TrainingPeaks?
Yes, when Sync sessions to TrainingPeaks is turned on. Only the supported basic session information is sent.
What happens when the athlete completes the workout?
Available completed-workout information is brought from TrainingPeaks into Summit, where it can be compared with the planned session and viewed alongside other athlete information.
Does turning off the sync disconnect TrainingPeaks?
No. Turning off Sync sessions to TrainingPeaks stops sessions being sent from Summit to TrainingPeaks. Information can still move from TrainingPeaks into Summit.
Can the athlete disconnect their TrainingPeaks account?
Yes. The athlete can revoke access through their TrainingPeaks settings.
Who owns the TrainingPeaks account?
This may differ by sport. The account or vendor relationship may sit with the athlete, coach, National Sport Organisation or HPSNZ. The appropriate arrangement should be confirmed with the sport rather than assumed.
